Light dissection and mass spectrometry of amyloid deposits from paraffin embedded tissue block

Mass Spectometry is the current gold standard method for subtyping amyloidosis deposits. This is particularly necessary if a patient has both features of AL and TTR amyloidosis or in rarer cases of amyloidosis, such as isolated renal disease. For example, if a patient phenotypically has TTR amyloidosis but has a paraprotein or light chain excess appropriate subtyping is required.

Accurate subtyping is necessary to ensure the patient is managed with the correct treatments and minimises morbidity and mortality from inappropriate treatments and uncontrolled amyloidosis.

POA, ~$2000 AUD per sample, please contact the SydPath team – each request will be provided a quote based on the service required. Note: prices are subject to variation due to exchange rates, shipping, and handling/domestic transport. To ensure compliance with NPAAC sample storage requirements, the specimen blocks/slides are returned by the Mayo Clinic Laboratories via SydPath after testing is complete.

Amyloid histology, immunohistochemistry and proteomic analysis

Sample requirements

Formalin fixed tissue block at room temperature

OR

22 serial sections, one section per slide, on coated slides or equivalent, dried overnight at 37°C,
CUT as follows:

  1. Section # 1 6mm thick
  2. Sections # 2 – 13, – 2mm thick
  3. Sections # 14 -21, 6mm thick
  4. Section #22 – 6mm thick, on the same slide as section #1 if possible.
  5. Please put sections in the middle of the slide.

OR

If only small amount of material is available – 9x 6mm thick sections

NOTE: Due to UK custom regulations the UK NAC have difficulty in returning stained slides and FFPE blocks; if you send the block for review at the NAC please provide permission to store/keep the samples in the archive file to avoid samples being lost or destroyed.
