National Virtual Grand Rounds Discussion
(Monthly National Virtual Grand Rounds Discussion for complex cases)
The AAN runs a monthly amyloidosis virtual grand rounds for discussion of diagnostic and management challenges, and complex cases. The monthly Grand Rounds is typically attended by at least three amyloid centres with multidisciplinary inputs from Haematologists, Cardiologists, Neurologists and Nephrologists
Because of the complexity, multidisciplinary nature and rarity of this disease, referral of patients to centres that are highly experienced in the management of amyloidosis is strongly recommended. However, the day-to-day provision of therapy and supportive care cannot be administered solely by each AAN Centre for every amyloidosis patient, and we share this essential care with local physicians.
Assistance can be provided via the Virtual Grand Rounds to provide further guidance regarding diagnosis, amyloid specific treatments, consideration for advanced therapies, such as transplant, and supportive care. These discussions can be particularly helpful for management of patients in regional and remote areas.
Patients can be referred by the specialist managing the patient.
The AAN Virtual Grand Rounds is held virtually, via Microsoft Teams, on the first Thursday of the month at 11:30 -12:30 AEST.
